The length and severity of the drought in California—now in its fourth year—are unprecedented. California began keeping weather records in 1851, just one year after it was admitted to the Union as the 31st state. In the 164 year history of California’s official weather records, this is the most severe and sustained dry period the state has ever experienced.

The Barton Family Celebrates 100 Years of Ranching Heritage

In 1912 Perry Franklin Barton established his 131 acre ranch along the banks of the Stanislaus River just outside the town of Escalon, California. Last Saturday the Barton family returned to the original site where Perry planted the first walnut trees to celebrate 100 years of rich family history… along with almost 300 guests.
